In Retrospect

Because
I’m too worn out [and lazy] to really recap what I’ve failed to blog in a
week [and because the last two series got more than enough headline
coverage.. for two separate reasons], I’m going to keep it simple and
give ya what’s on the brain:

– I don’t know how it’s possible for the Yanks to score 9 runs off Johan Santana, and yet only manage to muster 4 hits off Fernando Nieve.. but it’s pretty funny.

Epic Failure = Luis Castillo.. Sorry Mets fans, but you can never come
back from that. A-Rod didn’t even yell “Ha” on that one.

– Today was my last official day of high school [g’damn, it lasted forever], but something tells me I shouldn’t be enthused. When a grown man throws a fit
because someone dared to make a minor insult about him, the whole “high
school never ends” thing really gains some credibility. Bruney voiced
his opinion and K-Rod responded oh so brilliantly by acting like a
sissy. Way to show his comments really didn’t bother you smart one.
Brun actually intended to apologize, but  apparently ‘Cisco needed to act big first [while standing 3 feet shorter..].. would never have guessed those two are the same age.

– Though the guy pulled off a miracle, pitching two
scoreless innings without walking a guy on Saturday, Jose Veras is
still a disease, as his incapability to find the plate has spread to
the starting rotation, which has forced the pen to work overtime.  You
can thank the tattoo-bearing, thrown out of a bookstore badazz A.J. Burnett for saving the arms yesterday.. but it’d be nice if you’d manage to kick a** against the one team we really can’t afford to be embarrassed by, A.J… Just sayin’..

– Speaking of Boston.. I have no choice but to hand it to ya.. With an 0-8 record, can’t even attempt to deny the fact the Sox have owned the Yanks so far
this season.. but the fans at Fenway are something else.. “You used
steroids” chant? No offense, but leave it up to Boston fans to state
the obvious. C’mon.. I honestly expected more.

What I didn’t expect.. the Yanks letting Big Papi come out for a
curtain call for his every HR without retaliation.. Granted, they’re very rare from him these days, but.. it’s amazing the incredible amount of things a player can get away with if he isn’t in a Yankee uniform.

– My last thought.. *virtual hour long standing ovation for Mark Teixeira*.. Gotta commend a guy who endured a month long.. um.. initiation,
without a single complaint, while continuing to work till he got it
right.. which he has, as he is tearing it up, and doing the little
things.. The guy really plays his heart out.

On Deck: I’ll be attending tomorrow night’s game while CC is on the hill. The opposing pitcher probably doesn’t matter.. it’s the Nationals.

Also On Deck: St. Louis vs. Detroit.. the Jeffy-Allen showdown.. oh boy =)

P.S. Interesting story here.. Next time you want to have a few words for an ump, watch out.. apparently they can eject more than just the guys on field these days..[in high school games at least]..

Screwed In More Ways Than One

Never
thought it’d get worse than that 22-4 game.. but this just about did
it. No lopsided score, but this one couldn’t get any more cruel. It
really needs no recap, but let me lay out how ugly it was, how much it
pissed me off, and how the Yanks are screwed [at least for near future]:

1.) Joe G. has a twisted delusion that he’s a magician and can pull his managerial decisions out of a hat.

2.) Playing Where’s Waldo
Bruney was rigged.. he wasn’t even in the picture. Where was he? On his
way back to New York for an MRI for his elbow. And why were we forced
to play the guessing game and didn’t hear about his departure or even
the suspicion of a problem with his elbow until after we needed him and the game was over you ask? I’d love to know that too.

3.)
The only thing worse than Cody Ransom, is no Cody Ransom. Despite his
A-Rod-esque trouble under the pressure.. when you have to resort to the
backup’s backup.. you know you’re screwed.

4.)
Wang can reuse his blue badge once more as he is on the DL again.
Though there doesn’t seem to be an actual injury, with the Yanks
expected to merely make something up to get the extra roster spot while
he figures things out, I almost wished it were an injury.. At least
then we’d know the problem. But seriously, can our rotation ever last more than 3 weeks into the season?

5.) The ’08 Yankee offense just won’t die.. The reappearance of the sky high number of runners left in scoring position was ridiculous.

6.)
The ‘pen is a box of chocolates.. You never know which you’re going to
get. Seems to be a toss up between the good or the bad one when the
BruMo tag team doesn’t roll out. Tonight just so happened to be a mix. The Good: Phil Coke, Albaladejo and Damaso Marte. The Bad: Mariano Rivera… and Damaso Marte.

7.) J-Bay needs to learn a thing or two. You do not smack one off Rivera. Quite the opposite in fact. He smacks you with a cut fastball that your bat can’t do anything but shatter in defense against.. Next time, get with the program.

8.) Youk won this
round.. but just a head up: protect your ribcage later today facing
A.J. big man.. Ortiz’ only spoke of headhunting.. Everything from the
neck down is fair game.

Side Notes:

– Speaking of Big Papi.. a big old Golden Sombrero for him.. Not so mean without Manny behind you eh?

– Prez Levine is one funny dude. Despite the hint of bastardness, his comeback at Don Garber is priceless:

Don Garber discussing Yankee attendance must be a joke. We draw more people in a year than his entire league does in a
year. If he ever gets Major League Soccer into the same time zone as
the Yankees, we might take him seriously… Hey Don, worry about Beckham, not the Yankees. Even he wants out of your league.

– Speaking of.. I must say, Boston’s tiniest ones are the most dangerous.. I swear.. they are sneaky little.. well, you know.

On Deck: Some eff-n payback, I plead. Burnett must again be forced to perform big and now on the biggest stage in the second game of this season within the season, facing Josh Beckett at 4:10 p.m. ET.

Just Wondering… Who’d win?

Everyone knows about the whole Joba / Youk situation and I said yesterday on Small Ball‘s blog that [although I highly doubt that they’d actually fight and though I don’t wish to see them fight… seriously] I’d bet money that Joba would win if things ever got physical. I’m wondering who you would pick to win in a fight in these theoretical match-ups?

                                              ph_501955.jpg                                       ph_425903.jpg

My Pick: Joba
You don’t throw 100 mph and not throw a mean right punch.

                                              ph_120074.jpg                                       ph_121347.jpg

My Pick: Ortiz
Sorry A-Rod, but Ortiz looks like he can bash some heads.

                                              ph_123660.jpg                                       ph_150035.jpg

My Pick: Nuke
V-Tek might have semi-won against A-rod [and Kyle may look a little goofy in his picture], but nobody beats Farnsworth.

                                              ph_121250.jpg                                       ph_449097.jpg

My Pick: Mariano
Match-up speaks for itself.

                                              ph_120903.jpg                                       ph_134321.jpg

My Pick: Damn Manny
Who are we kidding… Pavano would probably trip on his way to fight Manny and break his pinky toe and have to be carried off the field.
                                              ph_115629.jpg                                      images.jpg

My Pick: O’Neill
No hard feelings here against Hawkins, but you saw what Pauly did to those water coolers.

This is all in good fun. In no way do I endorse fighting between players *cough*, so who has your pick?

Mission “Jinx Yanks”: Failed

ortiz jersey.jpgThe rumors about a worker’s plot to plague the Yankees by burying a Red Sox jersey somewhere in the New Yankee Stadium was indeed true. However, the plot has been foiled. The jersey has been found and the new stadium is safe… can’t say the same for the jersey. One thing to note, the jersey had Ortiz’s name on it and was buried 2 feet deep while the actual Ortiz went 3 for 43 so far this season. Hmmm… maybe they should’ve left it there… or buried the rest of the Sox players’ jerseys along with it. Nonetheless, hopefully the hex is lifted and the Yankee batters can start doing what Ortiz hasn’t been doing. Game Time: 8:05
